What is it?
A fracture of the bone is caused either through significant trauma (a fall or car accident) but may be caused by relatively minor trauma if your bones are weak (such as in osteoporosis, infection or tumour).
• Middle back pain • Radiating chest pain - if nerves are compressed • Pain, weakness and numbness in legs - if spinal cord is compressed
When to see a doctor or consider surgery?
You should see a doctor if any of the symptoms occur, especially if pain occurs following trauma. If you experience any 'Red Flags' (Symptoms requiring immidiate attention) you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
How is it diagnosed?
An X-ray,CT or an MRI scan may be undertaken to diagnose a fracture
